Animals get time to shine

Annual expo set for Sunday at Memorial Park

Memorial Park will play host to many four-legged friends this Sunday thanks to the fifth annual Delta Community Animal Expo.

The event is put on by the Delta Community Animal Shelter, which is excited to introduce a "demo ring" this time around, says animal control officer and 2013 Animal Expo project manager Jenna Ascroft.

"This year we've split it up where we've got the show stage for people who are doing educational topics and speeches and the demo ring which will be more an active, wide open area for animals to really use the space."

Some of the demonstrations will include dog agility, Frisbee dogs, canine nose work and rabbit agility.

Ascroft says the whole park has been reserved this year for the expo and that more space equals more room for some fun activities.

The Tollie Fund Activity Arena will have activities for both people and dogs, she says.

There will be a chance for people to win a number of prizes at game stations, as well as a grand prize draw at the end of the day that is free to enter.

For those who get hungry at the event there will be Bombay Joes Indian food, minidoughnuts, hotdogs, fruit smoothies and Frostbite Cupcakes and Candy.

The Feelgood Treat Company and other vendors will have treats for animals.

Ascroft says last year's expo was a big success with approximately 40 vendors in attendance and about 3,500 visitors.

The Delta Community Animal Expo takes place Sunday, Aug. 11 at Memorial Park, 5010-47th Ave., Ladner, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Leashed pets are welcome.
