Artist Donna Zhang and her students will have their work on display at Gallery 1710 in Tsawwassen this weekend.

Zhang will have one of her many Tibetan portraits at the exhibit, which has a “meet the artists” reception on Sunday.

She’s travelled to Tibet several times in recent years and has gained an “appreciation of the strength of character that shows in the Tibetans’ faces,” her artist bio states.

Zhang, who lives in Coquitlam, obtained her master’s degree of art from Saitama University in Japan in 1997. She subsequently immigrated to Canada and worked as a professional artist.

Tsawwassen’s Birgit Coath is one of Zhang’s 10 students with work in the local show.

They’ve been working together for two years and Coath says Zhang has helped her develop her own style.

“I like to have emotion in my paintings somehow,” says Coath, who will have six pieces on display.

The show runs until Sunday at Gallery 1710 in Tsawwassen (adjacent to the South Delta Recreation Centre).

The reception for the show will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. Artist profiles and paintings can be viewed at www.ourartgroup.com.
