Author Alison Acheson is set to launch her 10th book this weekend in Ladner.

A Little House in a Big Place will be launched on Saturday, June 8 in an event from noon to 3 p.m. at Black Bond Books in Trenant Park Square.

The picture book was published this spring.

Acheson has recently returned from a week in Quebec, sharing this new work in Montreal and the townships as a part of the Canadian Children’s Book Centre and TD-sponsored National Book Week.

“It is such an honour to take part in Book Week,” said Acheson, who presented her book and shared the writing process at more than a dozen schools and libraries.

She has written a blog post about the experience at www.alisonachesonkids.com. Acheson’s published work is an eclectic mix for all ages.

A Little House in a Big Place began with a train ride and a question about what it means to connect with another human being even if they never learn your name or meet face-to-face. Can those childhood waves to train engineers change a life?

Acheson grew up in Tsawwassen and has lived in Ladner for more than two dozen years. The area will always have a piece of her heart.

Her sons have grown up playing hockey and baseball, and it was in this town that her spouse, Marty Hatlelid, a.k.a. Guitar Marty, passed away from ALS in 2016. The community gathered around the family in support, and Acheson has written a memoir of that time, titled Dance Me to the End, which will be published in September.
