It's only been open for a week, but already the Delta Hospital Auxiliary's Christmas Store is giving back to the community.
On Saturday, Oct. 26, they get into the spirit of the season with a Customer Appreciation Day and Food Drive for Deltassist.
"We are all very excited to get the holidays off to a great start," says Elaine Canning of the Delta Hospital Auxiliary. "It's an opportunity to not only celebrate a special time of year, but to celebrate with our customers as well."
As part of the celebration, the auxiliary is asking people to bring a non-perishable food donation for the Deltassist Christmas Hamper program. All donations will be distributed to those in our community who are struggling to get by. The volunteers of the auxiliary will also be handing out hot coffee as a thank you for donations of food or cash.
Each year, Deltassist partners with several local service clubs to run the Christmas Hamper program. In 2012, 668 families received food hampers throughout the community. Deltassist also runs the Toy Depot, and handed out toys for almost 800 children last year.
"The members of the service clubs that distribute the hampers tell us many people would have nothing to eat at Christmas without us," says Christiann Munro, Deltassist Christmas Programs Coordinator. "It's thanks to the Hospital Auxiliary, schools and other local organizations running collection events that we can make Christmas a little brighter for as many people as we do."
The event will run at the Christmas Store located, at 4830 Delta Street, from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. A list of needed food items can be found at Deltassist.com/ChristmasPresents.html.
Envision Financial has also helped out by providing advertising support and a big tent to keep everything dry during the food drive.
The Delta Hospital Auxiliary is a non-profit, volunteer based organization dedicated to improving the care and comfort of the patients of Delta Hospital and the Mountain View Manor.  Every year the money raised through their various units provide much needed equipment for Delta Hospital which in turn improves community healthcare.
