Shannon Fitton and her family couldn’t believe their good fortune after friends and neighbours rallied to replace their outdoor basketball hoop.

When the hoop was stolen during Delta’s annual spring clean-up, despite the item having a note on it stating that it was not part of the clean-up, Fitton took to social media – specifically the Tsawwassen Loop Facebook group - to vent her frustrations.

That’s when the amazing kindness of friends and complete strangers took over.

Over the course of a few days these friends and strangers got together and showed up on the families’ Beach Grove doorstep with a new basketball hoop.

“This community is amazing,” Fitton said. “They all showed my boys that yes there may be bad people in this world, but that the good people far outweigh the bad.”

Her sons, Cooper, 13 and Silas, 9, were blown away by the generosity too.

“They were pretty upset when the hoop was stolen,” said Fitton.

Fitton posted again on the Loop thanking everyone who was involved in the generous gift including: Laura Marriott, Tara Halisky Armstrong, Meghan Hussack, Matt Hussack, Jason Hooper, Lori Ann Helen Glavnic Bakker, the Scholz family, the Dodd’s family the Kolebaba family, the Cummings family, Connie Bentley, and Shannon Philbrook.

Her husband Russ set up the hoop over the weekend and Cooper and Silas are having a great time shooting hoops once again.

“We will be chaining this one to the fence,” she said.
