You never know what you might find at the Car Boot Sales in Tsawwassen.

"Ever looked in your basement? That's what you'll find," says Boundary Bay Park Association president Geof Hacker with a laugh.

The first sale of the year takes place tomorrow (Saturday, June 14) from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Centennial Beach at Boundary Bay Regional Park.

The local sales, which have been running for over a decade, see sellers load up their cars with goods and set up shop in the beach's parking lot.

Buyers can browse merchandise, which includes clothes, jewelry, old pictures, antiques, baby items, tools, plants, records, gardening equipment and more, notes Hacker and coordinator Tom Bearss. "One person's junk is another person's treasure," says Bearss.

Sellers in attendance usually range from 25 to 35 but numbers have been as high as over 40, he notes.

While the sales are a chance for people to get rid of unwanted items it's also an opportunity to socialize.

"We encourage vendors to come sell their stuff, but it's a social venue too," says Bearss. "They talk and chat with their friends and neighbours."

It costs $10 per stall per day and stalls are assigned on a first come first serve basis. No setup is allowed before 8 a.m. Proceeds are used to help host events at Boundary

Bay Regional Park, including the usual Christmas celebration with Santa at Cammidge House, Bearss notes.

The car boot sales run on the second and fourth Saturday of the month until September.

The park association also sells coffee and cookies at the boot sales.
