The Fraser Valley Regional Library has a Summer Reading Club for everyone: Read to Me for (0 to preschool), Kids (kindergarten to Grade 6), Teens (grades 7 to 12) and adults. Sign up starts mid-June and continues throughout the summer. Read for your chance to win prizes. Visit your local library to join. 

 

All uked up and no place to jam? Whether you are a ukulele newbie or a seasoned strummer, join the fun and relaxed Library Ukulele Jam at the Tsawwassen Library on Thursday, June 21 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.  The group plays an eclectic mix of music. Bring your ukulele and your singing voice. Library Ukulele Jam meets on the second Saturday of the month at Ladner Pioneer Library and on the third Thursday of the month at Tsawwassen Library.

The Tsawwassen summer car boot sales take place at the Centennial Beach parking lot. The next sale takes place Saturday, June 23 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Cost for vendors is $10 on a first-come, first-served basis. Hosted by Boundary Bay Park Association. The Knitting Sisters that knit and crochet for charities meet as a drop-in from 10 a.m. to noon on the first and third Saturdays of the month at McKee Seniors Recreation Centre in Ladner. Cyclists, if you would like to ride with others, meet at the Ladner Pioneer Library parking lot Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. The ride is especially suited for reasonably fit, mature cyclists but anyone is welcome. Contact Bob at 604-943-1603 for more information.

 

Delta Hospice Society offers a Drop-In Relaxation Circle, led by a music therapist, for those living with cancer or serious illness, as well as their family members and friends, every Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Centre for Supportive Care, 4631 Clarence Taylor Cres., Ladner. Program is complimentary.

 

The Canadian Lifeboat Institution is interviewing potential volunteers to serve as crew or support personnel for its Delta Lifeboat. Professional training is given in seamanship, navigation, medical, and search and rescue techniques. Contact John at 604-760-5218 for more information.

 

Love the game of golf and want to join a ladies group? Kings Links Ladies play every Tuesday morning and are welcoming new members. The 2018 season goes until mid-October. Ambassadors Tsawwassen Mills Toastmasters meet every second and fourth Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Come listen to some amazing speeches and see if Toastmasters is for you. The club meets at the Tsawwassen Mills training room and always welcomes guests. Every second and fourth Tuesday of the month from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Tsawwassen Library connect with other newshounds for News and Views to discuss current events in the news. Bring an article to share or discuss what turns up in the day’s papers.

 

Do you want to talk about big ideas and learn from the greatest minds on the planet? Attend a TED Talks Discussion Group at the Tsawwassen Library on the first and third Tuesday of the month at 10:30 a.m. TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) is dedicated to spreading ideas and covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues. Listen to a pre-selected TED Talk and an open discussion will follow.

FUND RAISERS

 

Delta Gymnastics Society has a Shred-A-Thon on Saturday, June 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Save-On-Foods in Ladner. Bring your confidential documents and Shred-Wise will do the shredding for you. There will be a barbecue and Spin the Wheel. Donations gratefully accepted on behalf of Delta Gymnastics.

SPECIAL EVENTS

 

Celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day at the Tsawwassen Library on Thursday, June 21. Beginning at 10 a.m. local artist and master carver Jody Wilson will be on site with some of his carvings and prints. Feel free to come and view his work, ask questions or purchase one of his prints.

 

Join Open Space Yoga on Thursday, June 21 at Memorial Park in Ladner from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. for a free, all-levels yoga class. Everyone is welcome, just bring a yoga mat and water bottle. ARTS

 

An Eagles tribute concert/dance is set for 8 p.m. on Friday, June 22 at KinVillage Community Centre, 5430-10th Ave., Tsawwassen. Tickets: $32. Spots are still available for students at the South Delta Jazz Workshop that runs July 3 to 7. This is a great opportunity to learn about jazz improv in small combo settings. Openings for students ages 12 to adult.
