KinVillage Travel will be going to the Sylvia Hotel overlooking English Bay for a full turkey dinner followed by a train ride through Stanley Park or Fly Over Canada at Canada Place on Tuesday, Dec. 10.

Celebrate-a-Life tribute card event at Delta Hospice’s Centre for Supportive Care in Ladner is an opportunity to honour those who are important to you whether they have passed, or are in your minds and hearts during difficult times. Visit between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday to Friday, from Dec. 2 to 31.

 

Delta Nature presents A Photo Safari through South and East Africa with David Hoar and Noreen Rudd. The talk will cover areas from Cape Town to Kilimanjaro with diverse and varied lands and peoples but their focus will be on the birds and beasts. The talk is on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. at Benediction Lutheran Church in Tsawwassen. All ages are welcome and the event is free. Contact president Tom Bearss at [email protected].

 

Are you interested in expanding your knowledge and meeting new people? On the first and third Tuesdays of each month at the Tsawwassen library, there are two recorded TED Talks that are shown followed by respectful discussion. Topics vary from inspirational events, medicine, science and human life. The next showing is Dec. 3 from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. and after that, Dec. 17 at the same time. Want to practice your Spanish conversation? Intermediate level Spanish conversation meetings take place in the Tsawwassen Library every other Tuesday at 7 p.m. Upcoming dates are: Dec. 3 and 17. Santa comes to the library. After a festive Christmas Storytime from 10:30 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at the George Mackie Library, Wednesday, Dec. 11 at the Ladner Pioneer Library and Friday, Dec. 13 at the Tsawwassen Library, Santa will appear at 11 a.m. Don’t forget to bring your camera.

 

Ambassadors-Tsawwassen Mills Toastmasters’ next meeting is Tuesday, Dec. 10 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Tsawwassen Mills Training Room. The club guarantees it will be an evening of laughter and learning. The meeting is an open house and the theme is "Winter is Coming.”

 

Make a Holiday Book Tree out of the pages of books that are no longer ideal for circulation, giving them a new life in the form of a holiday decoration. Program runs on Tuesday, Dec. 10 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Ladner Pioneer Library. Recommended for ages eight-plus with adult supervision.

 

Delta Nats casual birding walk will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 11 from 9 a.m. to noon at Boundary Bay Regional Park. Join Tom Bearss and his informal birdwatchers and enjoythe abundance of resident and wintering species. The outing will end with a beverage and snack at historic Cammidge House. Taoist tai chi is a set of gentle movements for people of all ages to improve health and balance. Mental Health Resiliency Support Group offered by Canadian Mental Health Association welcomes anyone who lives with a mental illness/mental health problem such as anxiety or depression. The group provides a safe environment to share your struggles and triumphs. Peer facilitators lead the group, provide support and educate on topics that help members to cope and move forward in an encouraging way. Group meets twice a month on Thursdays in the Ladner office. The Tsawwassen Order of Old Bastards (TOOBs) has been quietly helping many South Delta groups and individuals since 1984. The club's fundraising is done through food services at community events such as the Ladner Bandfest and the Tsawwassen Sun Festival. Royal Canadian Marine Search & Rescue Station 8 Delta is looking for men and women to join the all-volunteer group dedicated to saving lives on the waters around Delta. Then join the Centre for Supportive Care’s drop-in, free Suicide Bereavement Alumni Group. Open to all communities. No commitment to attend every month. Bingo anyone? KinVillage Community Centre hosts the longest running and richest bingo in Tsawwassen. Play 11 games, including Bonanza, for only $7.50 every Wednesday from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Before you play you can enjoy great food at reasonable prices in the on-site Buenos Dias Café.

 

A mix of gentle chair yoga, meditation and stretch is offered from 11 to 11:45 a.m. on Thursdays at KinVillage Community Centre in Tsawwassen. $5 for members or $6 for non-members per class or purchase a 10 punch card for $40 or $60.

ElderCollege Delta invites all those interested in hearing Dr. Gaoheng Zhang talk about the fashion industry and its pursuit of name brand clothing for price conscious customers. The “Made in Italy” tag implies high end, well-made clothing but where is it made and by whom? Presentation takes place on Saturday, Nov. 30 at Cedar Park Church in Ladner from 10 a.m. to noon. eCleCtiC café on Saturday, Nov. 30 from 7 to 9 p.m. at McKee Seniors Recreation Centre. With the dark, rainy evenings upon us, join Howard Solverson and his guest as they present an eclectic mix of live music in a comfy coffee house setting. KinVillage Travel will be going to the Sylvia Hotel overlooking English Bay for a full turkey dinner followed by a train ride through Stanley Park or Fly Over Canada at Canada Place on Tuesday, Dec. 10. Bus leaves White Spot in Tsawwassen at 3:45 p.m. and from McKee Seniors Recreation Centre in Ladner at 4 p.m., returning at approximately 10:30 p.m. Cost is $90 for members and $95 for non-members. KinVillage Travel is open 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays at KinVillage Community Centre.

 

New Year’s Eve dinner/dance tickets on sale now at KinVillage Community Centre in Tsawwassen. Enjoy chef Adrian’s spectacular dinner, then dance to Scott Robertson’s Swing Patrol on Tuesday, Dec. 31. Ladner United Church’s Christmas Village Bazaar is Saturday, Nov. 30 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be Christmas baskets, collectibles, baking, crafts and more.

 

Port Guichon Winter Market will be held on Saturday, Nov. 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Port Guichon Elementary. Santa’s coming to historic Cammidge House in Boundary Bay Regional Park on Sunday, Dec. 1 between 1 and 3 p.m. Each child receives a goody bag at the complimentary community event. Delta Choral Society presents the Delta Children’s and Chamber Choirs in concert at KinVillage Community Centre in Tsawwassen on Sunday, Dec. 1 from 2 to 3 p.m. Admission is free. Donations gratefully accepted.

 

Sunday @3 Concert series returns to Ladner United Church on Dec. 8 with a performance from the Trinity Community Choir which will present A Midwinter Noel. Tickets are $10 at the door.

 

Did you have fun playing in a band in high school? If so, dust off your instrument, contact Curt Jantzen, and then join us in Ladner Tuesday evenings.  The Delta Music Makers Concert Band is a fun group of adults who love to rehearse and play concerts in the community. Especially needed now are trumpets and clarinets, or any instrument except alto sax (that section is full). Contact [email protected].

 

Loades of Music daytime concert band has commenced a new season. Band rehearses Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m. at Saviour Lutheran Church, 4737-57th St., Ladner. Registration fee is $50 per year. This year the band would like to add players to its brass section that play either trumpet or trombone.
