SD Newcomers’ next meeting is Thursday, March 21 at 7:15 p.m. at Gallery 1710 in Tsawwassen. Guest speaker Mark Swenson, a celebrated Point Roberts author, will entertain and surprise with tales, trails and trivia of this unique American enclave.

 

Ambassadors-Tsawwassen Mills Toastmasters Club meets every second, third and fourth Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. The theme of the next meeting on Tuesday, March 26 is "unwinding."  Club meets at the Tsawwassen Mills Training Room (enter at Entrance 4, turn left past Old Navy, and it's between Yogibo Bean Bags & Yogen Fruz). Ambassadors always welcome guests. The Canadian Federation of University Women South Delta next meeting is Tuesday, March 26 at 7:15 p.m. This meeting is open to the public. Have you had a recent loss due to suicide and want the support of others in similar circumstances? Then join an adult Suicide Grief Support Group where you can share your feelings and thoughts in a safe and supportive environment, learn about coping strategies and resources, and develop community with others. The group meets at the Centre for Supportive Care in Ladner for eight Tuesdays, March 26 to May 14, from 1 to 3 p.m. For more information or to pre-register, call 604-948-0660. From flying chickens to hair-raising electrical displays, experience Science World on the Road at the Tsawwassen Library on Wednesday, March 27 from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Spectacular science demonstrations will showcase the power and spectacle of chemistry, physics and more. Program will also take place on Friday, March 29 from 11 to 11:30 a.m. at the Ladner Pioneer Library.

 

Delta Nature welcomes Bev Ramey who will present Double-Crested Cormorants – Is this bird a friend or foe? Inspiration for this photo presentation comes from the 150 double-crested cormorants that roost in the Douglas fir trees in front of Bev and Bill Ramey’s cabin at Winter Cove, Saturna Island. Presentation is on Tuesday, April 2 at 7:30 p.m. at Benediction Lutheran Church in Tsawwassen. Delta Community Living Society is hosting a workshop for families supporting a person with autism or a developmental disability titled What is a Representation Agreement and Why is it Important. Delta Deas Rowing Club has published its “Learn to Row” schedule for spring and summer 2019. All programs take place at Deas Island Park. Rowing is a “sport for life” and the club offers programs for teens as well as adults from 18 to 88 years of age. Sessions are available at a wide range of times during the week and weekend. The Tsawwassen Order of Old Bastards (TOOBs) has been quietly helping many South Delta groups and individuals since 1984. The club's fundraising is done through food services at community events such as the Ladner Bandfest and the Tsawwassen Sun Festival. Then join other adults on gentle walks with the option to share your experience of grief and loss. Royal Canadian Marine Search & Rescue Station 8 Delta is looking for men and women to join the all-volunteer group dedicated to saving lives on the waters around Delta. Love to dance? There will be dances at KinVillage Community Centre in Tsawwassen every Friday night (8 to 10:30 p.m.) and Sunday afternoon (1 to 3:30 p.m.). There will be music for a variety of dances, including waltz, jive and foxtrot, and requests will be taken. Cost is $5 for KinVillage members and $6 for non-members. Admission includes tea, coffee and assorted snacks.

Restorative Yoga for people living with cancer can help deepen relaxation, increase flexibility and heighten breath and body awareness. Join Delta Hospice’s yoga group where body, breath and mind come together in fully supported reclining yoga positions. Yoga experience is not necessary. This spring’s volunteer training program at Delta Hospice will run Thursday, April 11 through Thursday, May 30. Anger management group: for women who have experienced any form of relationship violence. This series runs every Thursday from April 18 to May 23 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Deltassist’s North Delta office. Bereaved and in need of better self-care and relaxation practices? Then join a music-therapist-led adult group where you will learn a variety of self-care techniques and participate in experiential guided relaxation to help you address feelings of depression, exhaustion and anxiety as they relate to grief. Do you enjoy knitting or crochet? Would you like to get together with like-minded people to share ideas, techniques and good conversation? Knit & Stitch is offered at all three Delta libraries. It runs Mondays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Ladner Pioneer Library, Wednesdays from 7 to 8 p.m. at Tsawwassen Library and Fridays from 2 to 4 p.m. at George Mackie Library. All ages and abilities are welcome.

Delta Hospice Society offers a Drop-In Relaxation Circle, led by a music therapist, for those living with cancer or serious illness, as well as their family members and friends, every Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Centre for Supportive Care, 4631 Clarence Taylor Cres., Ladner. Program is complimentary.

 

The Canadian Lifeboat Institution is interviewing potential volunteers to serve as crew or support personnel for its Delta Lifeboat. Professional training is given in seamanship, navigation, medical, and search and rescue techniques. Contact John at 604-760-5218 for more information.

 

50+/SENIORS

 

Line Dancing with Susana, Latin and ballroom-style classes, are offered at KinVillage Community Centre in Tsawwassen. Classes are at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays, 4 p.m. on Wednesdays and 9 a.m. for beginners on Fridays. No partners required. Drop-in is $6 for members and $7 for guests. Punch card deals also available.

McKee Seniors Recreation Centre in Ladner is holding Sing-a-long Friday afternoons at 1 p.m. If you enjoy singing for fun, come by and join in.

McKee House Seniors Society is holding its annual general meeting at the McKee Seniors Recreation Centre in Ladner on Saturday, April 6 at 10 a.m.

 

Shari’s Saturday Social Dance will be held from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 13 at KinVillage Community Centre in Tsawwassen. The theme is Splendor of the South Seas. Summer attire welcome (but optional). Dance the night away to a great variety of CD music. Tickets, available at the door, are $12 for members and $14 for guests.

 

McKee Walking Club walks rain or shine every Tuesday and Friday. Meet at 9 a.m. in the lobby of the McKee Seniors Recreation Centre.

 

McKee Seniors Recreation Centre needs new members for its carpet bowling club that meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon. Cost is only .50 cents.

 

A Modelers Club meets at McKee Seniors Recreation Centre Tuesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Members build models of all scales, discuss the hobby, and share tips and secrets. Members must have a current McKee membership.
