A bench unveiling ceremony in memory of a Delta Gymnastics' long-time member and coach will take place at the Ladner facility on Thursday, Aug. 15.
Heather Henderson, who passed away at the end of March of this year, grew up at Delta Gymnastics and moved through her years as a gymnast, a coach in training, a coach and a program coordinator.
“Delta Gymnastics was Heather's second home for many years, and we want to make sure we continue to have a special place for her,” explained Delta Gymnastics executive director Ana Arciniega. “We want to celebrate her life with a fond demonstration of how much she meant to us.”
Henderson coached in a variety of programs and helped build the high school gymnastics program.
"Through her work, Heather touched the lives of many teens who thrived under her leadership and coaching," added Arciniega. "Heather was passionate about the gymnasts she coached and always strove to make them feel welcome, safe and happy. She was a dedicated mentor to many young gymnasts."
Delta Gymnastics is inviting all those who knew Henderson to join in celebrating her life. The 5 p.m. event will be outdoors and people can contribute by bringing a small sweet or savoury dish to share. RSVP by Aug. 11 by emailing [email protected].
