Promoting community and the importance of shopping locally, as well as offering networking opportunities, are the ideas behind the popular Ladies of the Links at Beach Grove Golf Club.

Started last year by Tsawwassen’s Debbie Wright with 40 to 50 women taking part in six events, Ladies of the Links has grown this year to 88 participants.

“I have done quite a few events over the years and they have always had a focus of promoting women in business and networking within our community. Just empowering women really,” said Wright.

“Last year I approached Beach Grove and asked them if there was a way to allow a group of non-member female members to come in once a month and play nine holes followed by dinner. They welcomed it as a nice support to the community.”

From there she approached some female business owners in Tsawwassen and they provided corporate sponsorship.

“This year the response has been overwhelming,” said Wright. “We launched with a full field of 88 and I had to turn others away. We have multiple sponsors lined up now until the end of August. There is great networking and a great community feel to the events.”
