The Golden Age of Comics describes an era of American comic books from the late 1930s to 1950. During this time, modern comic books were first published, and rapidly increased in popularity, and the superhero archetype was created. Many well-known characters, including Superman, Batman, Captain Marvel, Captain America and Wonder Woman were introduced.

Saturday, May 5 marks Free Comic Book Day, an event where participating comic book stores around the world give away comic books absolutely free to anyone who comes into their shops.
