Many hands contribute to South Park mural

South Park Elementary staff and students have created a mural to celebrate the area’s aboriginal history and the school’s positive connection to the community.

South Park Elementary staff and students have created a mural to celebrate the area’s aboriginal history and the school’s positive connection to the community.

Principal Taj Reel said the project, spearheaded by the South Park parent advisory council, has been several years in the making.

“Last year we found an artist and began the process of designing the mural,” said Reel. “Through consultation with parents, students, staff and the mural artist, we came up with a design that connected positively to the community, its aboriginal history and to the amazing landscape.”

The artist, Dean Lauze, and his son Josh are from Mission.

Reel said they have both worked very hard to bring the mural to life.

“As part of the mural painting process, every South Park student had an opportunity to paint the mural,” said Reel. “Our parents, students and staff feel very proud of this legacy project that has connected our entire school community.”
