Minister's Minute: Undercurrents

Have you ever stood on a sandy beach just a little way into the incoming waves? If you stand in one place the outflow undercurrent will erode the sand you stand on and eventually cause you to move.

Have you ever stood on a sandy beach just a little way into the incoming waves? If you stand in one place the outflow undercurrent will erode the sand you stand on and eventually cause you to move. Undercurrents reveal whether your foundation is solid.

How about the undercurrents of change that continually whirl around us in daily life? Will we try to live as if they don't affect us or will we seek out the appropriate place and manner by which we will make our stand in the midst of shifting realities?

In our comfortable South Delta communities, undercurrents of change are swirling. Development in the form of an expanded port, the destination mall on TFN lands, the

provincial government's plans for a new bridge, and with all this ease of access to our treasured communities we add the Stats Canada immigration projections of population increase from Asian and Pacific nations.

It is quite a mix of undercurrents that will unquestionably reveal whether our foundations are strong enough to accommodate such realities.

It won't be enough to just wait and see what will happen. We, in general as society, and specifically as churches and faith communities would do well to plan, prepare and be confident that we will be able to stand with a faithful response of God's love and the open arms of welcome to all who come our way.
