Minister's Minute: United in our faith

The more we do this the more we will see the blessing of God in our communities.

A man reading the Holy Bible.

Jeremiah 29:7 (NIV): “Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.”

This was a message from God to His people in Jerusalem after Babylon, Israel’s enemy, had destroyed their city and took them captive in about 586 BC.

God told them to settle into the new city, become a part of the community and do whatever they could to help the city prosper, including praying for it.

Jesus, in one of His parables, about 600 years later, said that His followers are to be “salt and light” wherever they are situated.

That means they are to be a source of justice, healing, hope and life to the people around them.

Last Friday (May 17), the churches of Ladner, Tsawwassen and Point Roberts gathered at Sacred Heart Parish to pray for our communities.

We came together from several denominations, but as one Church, centered around the mission of Jesus.

We prayed for families, schools, community leaders, first responders, and churches in South Delta and Point Roberts.

It was a beautiful display of unity.

We are all on the same team. Our unified goal is that God would use us to bless and prosper our communities for the sake of the Gospel of Jesus.

I want to personally give a huge shout out to Dr. John Roddam from Sacred Heart Parish and Pastor Danny Stebeck from Lighthouse Church for organizing the event and pulling our churches together.

The more we do this the more we will see the blessing of God in our communities.
