Teams take on a series of challenges at the Sport Showdown competition. The event, hosted by Delta Gymnastics, is in its fourth year.

Delta Gymnastics' fourth annual Sport Showdown is an afternoon to have a bit of fun.

"It's a fun time. It's teambuilding and camaraderie," says Delta Gymnastics Society executive director Ana Arciniega.

The friendly competition, which takes place next month, features teams of eight to 12 members taking on a series of challenges. Examples from last year include walking a low beam blindfolded with your teammates helping guide you and another saw teams using foam cubes to build a tower.

Some challenges are more physical than others, she notes, adding some are changed up to keep things fresh.

There are two categories for teams: Full Throttle For Type As (more competitive) and Power to the People (more recreational).

"Everybody ends up sweating and with a huge smile on their face because it's fun," says Arciniega.

The event is a fundraiser for Delta Gymnastics and each participant is asked to collect a minimum of $25 in pledges as their entry fee.

Trophies are handed out to the winning teams from each category while there is also a prize for best team spirit as well as most money raised.

The Sport Showdown takes place at the Delta Sport Development Centre in Ladner on Sunday, Feb. 16. Registration takes place at 12:30 p.m. and the event starts at 1 p.m. Email execdirector@deltagymnastics. com by Feb. 2 if you're interested in registering a team to take part.
