Starry Night comes to Deas Island park

We've all heard them - the creatures that hoot, howl and squeak in the night. But this Saturday, you can get a closer look at owls, coyotes, bats and more at the annual Starry Night event at Deas Island Regional Park in Delta.

We've all heard them - the creatures that hoot, howl and squeak in the night. But this Saturday, you can get a closer look at owls, coyotes, bats and more at the annual Starry Night event at Deas Island Regional Park in Delta.

Usually, the park is closed after dark, but once a year, this beautiful riverside park is opened up for a magical exploration of the night. Visitors can walk along candle-lit paths through the cottonwood trees, meet a live owl, watch bats fly from their roost in the beautiful Burrvilla heritage house and much, much more.

"Starry Night is a great way to get to know more about the creatures of the night and have a lot of fun doing it," says Lori Bartley, park interpreter for Metro Vancouver regional parks. "Whether you're a kid who wants to play a game of pin-the-tail on the coyote or an adult who wants to learn more about spiders, there will be lots of fun stuff going on."

Starry Night is put together by Metro Vancouver Regional Parks and Delta Parks and Recreation. As well, partners groups will be there too, such as the Royal Astronomical Society (who will bring a telescope for peering at the stars and planets), Delta Museum and Archives (who will welcome visitors to Burrvilla and show them what people did for fun in the early 1900s) and Science World, (who will come with cool displays and activities).

Starry Night takes place on Saturday, Aug. 17.

Everyone is welcome and it's free. The fun starts at 7:30 p.m. and continues until 10 p.m. - rain or shine! For more information, call 604-224-5739.
