It’s finally summertime and the Earthwise Garden in Boundary Bay is really starting to flourish.
The late spring rain can invite plenty of weeds to rear their heads, but Earthwise Society had a good head start preparing for the gardening season thanks to a little help from some friends.
Earthwise was pleased to welcome employees from Richmond-based Sage Foundation to the garden for a special volunteer work party to get it cleaned up and ready for the season ahead.
The Sage Foundation crew of about 16 was enthusiastic, hard-working and eager to get to work replanting and clearing the feature dry garden area. The group was divided into smaller work parties, each led by an experienced Earthwise gardener.
The teams began by weeding and cleaning up the beds. They removed established perennial plants, enriched the soil with compost, then divided and replanted the perennials.
The Sage Foundation crew was invited back and was excited to see the fruits of its earlier labour in full bloom. On its return visit, the Sage team did a complete cleanup and makeover of the Heritage Garden.
Earthwise welcomes and encourages local business teams to visit, learn about the work that Earthwise does and spend some time helping in the garden. Volunteering as a corporate group can be a great way for employees to bond and build teamwork, which can in turn lead to higher morale and productivity.
