YoGuy Yoga, a new class at McKee Seniors' Recreation Centre on Thursday afternoons, begins Jan. 17 with a free introductory session.

The class is designed to help men learn the basics of yoga to improve flexibility for the "tight guy" areas such as the shoulders, hamstrings and hips. Yoga works the entire body, covering every muscle, joint and organ. The practice of yoga oxygenates the blood to create more energy via postures and breathing.

Participants will work every body system: cardiovascular, skeletal, muscular and endocrine.

Instructor Bernice Kovacevic, a registered yoga instructor and personal trainer who has taught lyengar yoga for 30 years, says participants will feel energized, relaxed and want to return for more.

The classes provide a workout, so participants are asked to bring a towel, water and their own mat if they have one. Comfortable and layered clothing is essential.

Punch passes (10 classes for $40 or 20 classes for $76) are available.
