Looking to add to your collection of books?

The annual Giant Book Sale at KinVillage Community Centre takes place next week.

Approximately 15,000 books are expected to be available, notes sale coordinator Judith Dinwoodie.

In terms of choice, Dinwoodie says there should be “absolutely everything from best sellers to biographies, history - you name the category, we’ve probably got something in it.”

Prices range from a dollar to three or four dollars for books, she says. Paperbacks are a loonie, hardcovers cost $2 and it’s $3 or $4 for large coffee table-type books.

Besides books there will also be jigsaw puzzles, games, CDs and DVDs.

On top of that, a “wide selection” of VHS videos will be given away for free, she notes.

“Last year, they all went.”

Last year’s book sale raised about $8,500 for the community centre.

“We made as much money on the first day as we did the entire weekend the year before,” she says. “That tells you there are still people who want books.”

This year is billed as the 10th anniversary of the book sale.

Proceeds from the upcoming sale will go towards purchasing a new bus for KinVillage.

Director of recreation John Lusted says the current bus is 16-years-old and repairs are costing a lot. The new bus will be more versatile, he adds.

The last day for book donations is next Tuesday. Dinwoodie asks that no encyclopedias, magazines, computer books or textbooks be dropped off.

The book sale takes place at KinVillage Community Centre, 5430-10th Ave., Tsawwassen, on Thursday, Jan. 29 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., on Friday, Jan. 30 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday, Jan. 31 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The centre’s Unique Boutique will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Jan. 31 as well.
