The Delta Hospital Auxiliary celebrated another successful year Monday at its annual Christmas luncheon at the Delta Town and Country Inn.

The event included the installation of Laura Nguyen as the organization's new treasurer.

Candles were lit during the installation ceremony, symbolizing the guidance and leadership that's provided by the auxiliary executive and staff.

A thank you note to volunteers from the hospital's surgical day department was read, letting the auxiliary know that six surgical hand pieces for cataract surgeries, recently purchased by the auxiliary, will be used for over 600 procedures a year.

Formed in the late 1960s by a group of citizens dedicated to bringing a hospital to Delta, the auxiliary has purchased many pieces of medical equipment over the years.

The auxiliary also provides for the residential care unit, music therapy program as well as bursaries for students and staff.

Volunteers contribute tens of thousands of hours every year at the auxiliary's gift shop, Lifeline unit, Ladner thrift store and Courtyard Café. They're also involved in such activities as making post surgical pillows for mastectomy and other patients.

The auxiliary this year expanded the Ladner thrift store. That expansion currently houses the auxiliary's always popular Christmas shop

President Beryl Matthewson noted the auxiliary will be looking for new co-ordinators for several of its units for the upcoming year.
