Bocephus King is back from Italy and playing a show a lot closer to home Saturday.

The event takes place at the Fishermen’s Hall in Ladner and King (aka James Perry), a local songwriter and musician, will likely have a seven-piece band there.

The show is a fundraiser for the local venue.

“I really love the Fishermen’s Hall. I’ve played there just a couple times over the years. It’s something I really love. I think it’s a little Ladner treasure I think everyone should try and support,” says Perry.

Proceeds go to ongoing renovations including work on the washrooms, siding, front doors and signage.

“The Ladner Fishermen’s Hall in Port Guichon has been a valuable part of the community since 1944 when the Ladner Fishermen’s Co-operative Association was formed to purchase the old Port Guichon station house,” according to a 2009 Optimist article. “Transforming it into a community hall, it became a place where fishing families could celebrate weddings, enjoy socials, and hold meetings and dances.”

Perry was touring Italy for about a month earlier this year to promote an album, titled Amarcord, made up of a collection of his songs.

Fix the Hall, Have a Ball, is set for Saturday, April 19, from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m, at the Ladner Fishermen’s Hall, 4481 Savoy St. There will be a cash bar and late night beef dip. Tickets are $20. Tickets are available at Angela’s Boutique, 604-946-5211, or at the door.
