A fundraising concert next weekend will help the Wander Inn Café continue to provide a place for musicians and music lovers alike.

The Wander Inn Café is the vision of Carey Muir, who is also the founder and co-director of Freshwave Ministries. He wanted to create something outside of the bar scene — a place where people could sit down, have a non-alcoholic beverage and take in some local talent. It also gives local musicians a place close to home where they can perform.

“That’s the neat thing about this, there aren’t a lot of places for where people can just go in and sing, and there’s a lot of talent in this area,” said Dawn Magee, concert organizer and chair for Freshwave Ministries board.

The café has been running monthly at Ladner Christian Fellowship since last summer and many of the performers will be back on Saturday, May 30 for Hearts of Hope, a fundraising concert.

Magee said many of the monthly performers, which she has dubbed the Wander Inn All-Stars, are returning for next week’s fundraiser, including Tsawwassen pianist Brian Griffiths, Allen des Noyers and Christine Magee.

In total, she has 12 acts lined up, with each performing two songs.

Tickets for Hearts of Hope cost $12 for adults and $8 for youth. Children 10 and under are free. Tickets can be bought at the door or in advance at 604-943-8094.
