Learn new gardening ideas and expert design tips at one of Delta’s 23 upcoming sustainable gardening workshops.

Join local experts to get advice on how to grow your own food and maintain beautiful, sustainable outdoor spaces. Back by popular demand, workshop topics include mason bees, organic herb and vegetable gardening, backyard composting, food preservation and seed saving.

“Delta is pleased to offer these workshops to help educate and encourage residents to participate in sustainable gardening practices,” says Mayor Lois Jackson. “Farming and gardening has been a way of life in Delta for generations and I’m happy to see our residents continuing this tradition.”

Based on last year’s feedback, a number of new workshops have been added, including small space and pallet gardening, diagnosing potential problems and harvesting compost. This year also will feature three workshops on the European chafer beetle. Learn how to reclaim your yard from this emergent pest.

Workshops are free for Delta residents and provide the skills needed to garden, reduce waste and conserve water. To register for a sustainable gardening workshop, visit www.delta.ca or call 604-952-3000.

Established in 2007, Delta’s free sustainable gardening workshops run from March to October at the following locations:

• Ladner: Harris Barn and Ladner Community Garden
• North Delta: Sungod Recreation Centre and North Delta Recreation Centre
