Drama and musical theatre teacher Alicia Tobin said putting on such a classic show this year has been such a rewarding opportunity.

“This is my second year at DSS, and I’ve been so blown away with the talent and dedication showcased by these outstanding performers,” said Tobin. “We’ve been working on this show since September, with about 75 cast and crew members combined. The students are just buzzing with excitement to have the opportunity to perform this show for an audience. We’ve had such a strong and supportive cast this year who are always willing to lend a hand wherever needed.”

DSS last put on a production of Footloose 10 years ago, so the school is looking at this year’s production as an anniversary of sorts.

“While directing this show, I’ve found there to be so many teachable moments within the plot,” Tobin added. “With themes of determination, perseverance, tenacity, and hope, we’ve found it cathartic to work through the challenges of late and intense rehearsals while finding ways to relate to the battle that Ren and the students of Bomont High face while trying to abolish a law that prevents them from dancing.

“We’ve had so much support from families, teachers, administration, and other volunteers, and we are so grateful to them for that. This show would not be possible without them.”
