Eco-documentary on pipeline to be screened at library

On The Line, an eco-documentary, will be shown on Wednesday Oct. 10 at the Ladner Pioneer Library.

Filmmaker Frank Wolf and a friend biked, hiked, rafted and kayaked the route of the proposed Enbridge pipeline to uncover the truth of the extreme environmental risks associated with the pipeline.

If approved, this pipeline would bring tar sands bitumen to the coast to be shipped to Asian markets. Supertankers, for the first time, would come to the pristine northern B.C. coast.

"These tankers would have to navigate sharp turns in Douglas Channel, sometimes in severe winter storms," says Cathy Wilander, chapter head of the Delta/Richmond Council of Canadians, which is sponsoring the screening. "Spills are inevitable and a major marine oil spill disaster would devastate our coast.

"We need to take action to stop these pipelines and tankers," Wilander says.

"We will have information on what looks like will be the biggest action of civil disobedience in B.C.'s history in Victoria Monday Oct. 22."

That action, called Defend Our Coast, is expected to bring people from all walks of life to Victoria in opposition to pipelines and tankers.

"This will be peaceful and people are prepared to be arrested," says Wilander.

The documentary will begin at 7 p.m.
