John Pippus and his band are returning to Ladner’s Genesis Theatre next Friday, June 27 for an evening of blues and folk rock in what marks the last concert at the theatre before it closes for repairs.

The theatre is scheduled to shut down at the end of June for 14 months for seismic upgrades so it won’t host another concert until September 2016.

Pippus has done everything from sharing the stage with Jackson Browne to playing to small, but appreciative, coffee house audiences.

He has garnered much praise in the media. SoundProof magazine declared him “...a folks/roots gem,” while Earshot magazine’s Shelley Gummerson said: “He has a gift for making us believe that he’s been down the road and around the block, and is still kickin’ it.”

Pippus’ band features guitarist Beaver Thomson, Jake Pippus on percussion and Peg Wilson on bass. Theatre manager Steve Campbell will be joining the band on stage for a couple of harmonica riffs.

Doors open at 7 p.m., with the concert scheduled to start at 8 p.m.

Tickets cost $15 (cash only) and are only available at the door.

Funds raised will help support theatre improvements during the seismic upgrade closure.
