Delta South MLA Vicki Huntington recently presented Jim Stimson, president of the Little House Society, with the Rick Hansen 25th Anniversary Relay Medal.
The medallion is being awarded to individuals who, like Rick Hansen, have overcome their own challenges and made a significant positive impact on their communities.
The Little House Society maintained a tiny house in Tsawwassen as a meeting place for addiction and related recovery groups.
When the house was destroyed by fire in 2009, the society, under Stimson's leadership, set about raising the $330,000 needed to complete a modern, multipurpose facility for recovery and other community groups that needed room for training, meetings and therapeutic uses.
In the past year, not only has the society raised all the money required, but numerous businesses have stepped forward to donate their materials and skills to finish a beautiful, first class facility.
"Jim Stimson has brilliantly led a group of dedicated citizens along a path of magnificent community accomplishment," said Huntington. "The Little House has become a beacon of support to individuals struggling with the impacts of addictions of all kinds. Delta is grateful for the leadership Jim and his board have shown and for the difference they are already making in our home town."
