Wait Until Dark is an iconic thriller first performed on Broadway almost 50 years ago. The story revolves around a heroin filled doll that Sam Hendrix was tricked into bringing through customs. He and his blind wife, Susy, have no idea about the contents, making them the target of three drug dealing thugs. When the woman who gave Sam the mysterious doll is murdered, the situation becomes more urgent.
Through a cleverly constructed deception, the criminals convince Susy that the police have implicated Sam in the woman’s murder, and the doll, is evidence. Susy refuses to reveal its location, and with the help of a young neighbor, figures out that she is the victim of a bizarre charade.
The ruthless con man, Roat, and two ex-convicts, Mike and Carlino, are about to meet their match in Susy. When Roat kills his associates, a deadly game of cat and mouse ensues. Susy knows the only way to play, is by her rules. When darkness falls, Susy turns off all the lights, leaving both of them to maneuver in the dark until the electrifying final scene.
Ingeniously crafted, Frederick Knott’s Wait Until Dark plays on the themes of darkness and light delivering steadily heightened tension from the first scene to its unexpected end.
