The Surrey-based group plays big band jazz with numbers from the 1930s, '40s and '50s all the way up to tunes from modern day writers.

"We have lively, toe-tapping music. Anything from sultry ballads to things that will just make your fingers snap and toes tap," says band manager Casey Blackwell.

Blackwell and Doug Knight reorganized the band, which has been active for about 15 years, in 2010.

"The band has grown and it's better than ever," says Blackwell, who also plays alto saxophone with the group.

The group has nearly 20 members and performs at venues throughout the Lower Mainland, he notes.

Christian Findlay is the band's music director.

The Mighty Fraser Big Band performs Friday, Sept. 20 at KinVillage Community Centre, 5430-10th Ave., Tsawwassen.
