The addition of a lounge at KinVillage Care Home's Parkview special care neighbourhood was celebrated last Wednesday.

The lounge was created to provide a quiet space where residents could enjoy a more tranquil setting away from the activity area.

"It will provide a good place for residents to enjoy visits with family and friends," said CEO Donna Ellis.

She added the celebration was held to thank the volunteers and board members who helped make the lounge a reality.

The proceeds of the book sale held earlier this year amounted to almost $8,000 and the lottery brought in more than $7,000. These funds, together with earlier contributions made through the former foundation, enabled the project to go ahead.

Volunteers attending the event appreciated the recognition.

"It is good to see volunteer skills used to provide something of real benefit and to be able to contribute to the care home," said Alan Hunt, who with his wife Margaret coordinated the book sale.

"Margaret's mother was so well looked after for six years in the care home and working for this project also has a personal reward," he said

The new area will be open for use by residents and their visitors in early August.
