Luisa Marshall performs as Tina Turner, the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll, at KinVillage Community Centre next weekend.

Luisa Marshall brings her Tina Turner tribute show to KinVillage Community Centre in Tsawwassen next Saturday.

Marshall, who referred to the famous singer and actress as her idol, says she started performing as Turner just for fun in 1995 after a fan suggestion and embraced the tribute artist role in 2000.

“Now it’s been 15 years of rock ‘n’ roll,” says the Vancouver-based Marshall. “It’s been crazy. It just took over my life.”

Marshall, who got the chance to perform on Oprah, sings Turner’s big hits in her show. It’ll be an intimate solo performance at KinVillage, she says, noting she engages with the audience a great deal.

Turner has inspired a lot of women, says Marshall.

“She’s the real deal,” she says, adding that her story of courage, survival and being one of the most successful artists around the world for so long is simply amazing.

Turner’s persona is the perfect example of girl power, says Marshall.

Marshall, who hosts Shaw Multicultural Channel’s Simply the Best show and also performs with her own band, says she enjoys performing as Turner and doesn’t think she’d feel the same fulfillment doing any other artist.

“Tina has got that oomph.”

Known as the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Turner’s hits include Proud Mary, What’s Love Got to Do with It and Private Dancer.

Marshall will also do a few songs from divas like Shania Twain, Lady Gaga, Amy Winehouse, Donna Summer, Beyonce, Etta James and Adele at the upcoming show.

The show is set for Saturday, Feb. 28 at KinVillage Community Centre, 5430-10th Ave., Tsawwassen. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., the Urban Village Café is open at 7 p.m. and the show is at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 (show only). A pasta bar is $10 per plate.
Tickets are available at KinVillage. Call 604-943-0225.
