The Delta/Richmond chapter of the Council of Canadians is hosting a community forum on trade deals next week in Ladner.

"Trade deals can fundamentally change the way Canada does business," says chapter head Cathy Wilander.

The forum is set for Tuesday, Oct. 23 from 7: 30 to 9: 30 p.m. at Kin House, 5050-47th Ave.

Council of Canadians trade campaigner Stuart Trew from Ottawa will be speaking at the event, outlining what's in these deals.

He will be looking at the CETA trade deal, the Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic & Trade Agreement that, among other things, allows European corporations access to the purchasing contracts of Canadian governments.

"Our governments might be forced to purchase from European corporations instead of locally and creating jobs. Already cities and municipalities across Canada have passed resolutions or are looking at passing resolutions opposing CETA," says Wilander.

Trew will also present information on FIPA, the Canada-China Foreign Trade Investment Protection Agreement.
