The South Delta Secondary choir came home from the WorldStrides Heritage Performance music festival in Seattle last month with two gold medals.

The group achieved gold in the concert choir and jazz choir categories.

SDSS music director Danielle Hamilton noted two students – Kate Yahn (Grade 11) and Owen Forster (Grade 12) – received individual honours with Maestro Awards.

Nearly 90 SDSS students took part.

Yahn also placed first in two categories at the recent Vancouver Kiwanis Music Festival. She competed in the Musical Theatre Comedy and Ballad solo divisions, singing Here I Am from the Broadway musical Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Someone Like You from the Broadway musical Jekyll & Hyde.

Yahn and Forster, a guitarist, were also involved in the school’s recent production of Legally Blonde The Musical.
