Singer Laura Gillespie will pay tribute to Canadian music star Anne Murray with an upcoming show in Ladner.

Snowbird is set for Genesis Theatre on Saturday, Nov. 15.

The multimedia performance includes songs from throughout Murray’s career, says Gillespie.

She starts with more recent tunes and “then go back in time gradually until we get back to the very beginning with all the songs that made her a star in the first place.”

Gillespie, who, like Murray, is from Nova Scotia, says she loves all of the famous artist’s songs, adding Bidin’ My Time is probably one of her favourites to sing.

“And, of course, Snowbird. Everybody loves that one.”

She says she loaded a box set worth of songs, about 60 or 70, onto her phone and listened to them constantly, eventually memorizing them all.

“Some of those songs I just love and we never get a chance to do. You have to do all the hits and there’s just so many of them.”

Gillespie says her mom used to listen to Murray’s music constantly while she was growing up.

Gillespie, who now lives on Vancouver Island, recalls taking her mom to see Murray perform in Halifax years ago.

“That was something I just never forgot.”

Murray, who has sold millions of albums over her career, is a four-time Grammy winner and has over 20 Juno Awards to her credit. She is a member of the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame, the Juno Hall of Fame, and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.

“It’ll be a great show and a lot of fun,” Gillespie says of next Saturday’s show, which begins at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $25.50. Purchase online at bellperformingartscentre.com or call 604-507-6355.
