Summer camps offered at Earthwise Garden

Budding young gardeners are invited to grab a bucket and trowel this summer and dig in for the Junior Master Gardener's summer camps at the Earthwise Garden and Farm in Boundary Bay.

Budding young gardeners are invited to grab a bucket and trowel this summer and dig in for the Junior Master Gardener's summer camps at the Earthwise Garden and Farm in Boundary Bay.

The camps are designed to get kids outdoors and playing in the dirt to discover the magic of nature and the fun of gardening.

Programs are for children seven to 12 and will run Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for eight weeks starting July 8. Each week has a different theme.

The camps explore a variety of topics from Seedy Secrets to Farming Fun. Children will have a chance to plant their own

sunflowers, beans and many other plants, or learn to identify common backyard birds and build their own wooden birdhouse.

Other weeks focus on water creatures found in ponds, wiggly worms and slimy slugs, and the world of creepy crawlies in the soil. Kids will lend a hand to some of the more helpful bugs by building a beautiful bug hotel.

For science buffs, one week will be all about Plant Science with real scientific experiments. Find out how to make two kinds of fruit grow on one plant.

For one special evening Earthwise will be hosting a Nocturnal Camp to discover which animals lurk around the farm and garden at night and go on a bat walk using real bat detectors.

Day camps cost $70 per week, or $60 per week for six or more weeks. The Nocturnal Camp is $30.
