Tsawwassen actor Cameron Thomson is set to star in Metro Theatre’s Christmas panto production of King Arthur’s Court.
Thomson plays Sir Lancelot, who is described as a very, very French young man who drives the ladies of the court wild with desire. He is one of a group of funny Knights of the Round Table.
King Arthur’s Court is a story using song and dance to tell the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.
Borrowing from Camelot and Monty Python and the Holy Grail, it features Young Arthur meeting Merlin. As Arthur matures he meets Guinevere and subsequently forms the Knights of the Round Table.
There is also a fire-breathing dragon (with throat problems) and the “Dame” -- a man dressed as a woman -- the mainstay of any panto. Mrs. Baker is the castle cook (not a good one) and has a few malfunctions in the kitchen.
A cast of 28 singers, dancers and actors brings the show to life in medieval costumes.
Thomson began acting in Grade 8 in a South Delta Secondary production of Annie. He was also in the Tsawwassen high school’s productions ofThe Sound of Music,Beauty and the Beast and Alice in Wonderland.
“Acting, singing and dancing defined my time at high school as I was in all but one of the productions in my time there,” he said.
After high school he fulfilled a childhood dream of acting on the Metro Theatre stage in a pantomime playing Robin Hood in Robin Hood and Marion.
The Metro cast is collecting coffee and tea donations that will go to the Ladner Legion. The Legion calls the many community meetings it has round tables and advertises them as such, so the Knights of the Pantomime Table are helping out their fellow military with donations of the popular beverages.
The show runs Dec. 14 to Jan. 5 at the Metro Theatre, 1370 Marine Dr. SW, Vancouver. Evening performances are at 7:30 p.m. while there are nine matinees at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $28 for adults and $18 for children for the evening shows and $32 for adults and $20 for children for the matinee shows.
