The Delta Skating Club now has two synchronized skating teams taking part in competitions.

The Delta Skating Club is hosting a raffle prize fundraiser at the Rose Crown Pub in Tsawwassen tomorrow for its synchronized skating teams. The teams feature 22 young skaters from Ladner and Tsawwassen who all train at South Delta ice rinks.

Synchronized skating sees teams of eight to 20 skaters move as one flowing unit at high speeds with the emphasis on maintaining precise formation and choreographed timing.

Last year, the Delta Skating Club's first team, Solar Ice, took home gold at the West Coast Synchro Challenge Cup and a bronze medal at the BC/YT Synchronized Championships in the beginner category.

Building on the success of the first two years of the club's synchronized skating program, this season it has fielded two teams - Solar Ice and Solar Flare - in competitions that feature teams from across Western Canada and the Yukon.

"This has been a great growing experience, not only for our young skaters, but the club as a whole," says board president Shannon Granger.

Granger says the club has had incredible support from local businesses to put tomorrow's fundraiser together. Raffle prizes at the Rose Crown event include a Vancouver Island hotel get-away, Canucks tickets, spa and salon gift certificates as well as Sidekick Players theatre tickets and artist donations.

Tickets are available throughout the day and you don't have to be present to win. All proceeds go towards the costs of fielding the two teams in competitions.

Solar Ice and Solar Flare will perform their competitive programs at the club's annual end of year show, It's All About that Beat, at the Ladner Leisure Centre in March. Visit www.deltaskatingclub.com for show times and more information.
