It’s another busy weekend in South Delta with a number of fun, community events.

Here are a few of the highlights:

Friday

Yu Yuk’s returns to The Stage at the Tsawwassen Legion on Friday, Sept. 13.

The Stage, which is the non-profit entertainment venue at the Legion, welcomes a great group of comedians for a fun night out. The headliner is Sharon Mahoney (Edinburge Fringe Festival) and the night also features comedians Syd Bosel, host Steve McGowan and others. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door for members and guests 19 and over.

Saturday

The Delta Police Foundation is hosting a shredding fundraiser in support of youth initiatives in Delta. Bring your confidential documents to be shredded by donation on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. behind the Raymond James parking lot in Ladner (5405 Ladner Trunk Road). Suggested maximum limit is 10 bankers’ boxes. The event is also being co-sponsored by Raymond James, Re/Max and the Delta police along with Shred Wise.

A Seniors Lifestyle & Health Fair will be hosted by the Ladner Lawn Bowling Club on Saturday, Sept. 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The 30 exhibitors at the fair will be able to help seniors understand how to best meet these challenges.

The warm summer sun has given us ripe, juicy tomatoes of many shapes, sizes and colours, and Earthwise Society will once again be celebrating the beauty and diversity of the heirloom tomato in all its glory. This year’s annual Heirloom Tomato Fest takes place on Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Earthwise Garden in Boundary Bay.

Boundary Bay Regional Park is one of only three areas of coastal sand ecosystems in the Fraser Lowlands and is regionally important for plants, invertebrates, birds and other species. That makes it an excellent example of what “biodiversity” actually means, which is why the Fraser River Discovery Centre has chosen it to be the location for its next BioDiversity Speaker Series event on Saturday from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Tickets to this event are $5 per person or $15 per family. They can be purchased in advance at https://www.fraserriverdiscovery.org/node/142 or by calling 604-521-8401.

Sunday

The Tsawwassen Rotary Club is once again hosting the annual Terry Fox Run in support of the Terry Fox Foundation and cancer research. The event is set for Sunday at the South Delta Recreation Centre where participants can walk, run, ride, push a stroller or rollerblade as funds are raised to help continue Terry’s legacy. There are five-kilometre and 10-kilometre routes. Registration starts at 9 a.m. with the run starting at 10 a.m.
