Local family-owned business Black Bond Books has announced it will be purchasing Hager Books, a staple in the independent book community.

According to a joint news release, the management team at Hager has been looking for a good steward of their lovely little gem of a bookstore for some time. They saw the care and success that Black Bond had achieved with the Book Warehouse acquisition 10 years ago and felt this would continue the longevity of the bookstore without losing the quaint feel their customers love. Hager Books will be a good fit with Black Bond and it has a community focussed approach to bookselling. Their hope is to continue what the Kerrisdale community enjoys in the wonderful store. Booksellers and Management at Hager Books have been welcomed to stay and continue sharing their love of books with their dedicated and loyal customers.

Louise Hager, founder of Hager Books, wished Black Bond Books “Congratulations, and I think the match is fabulous!”

This marks a milestone for Black Bond Books as the company will celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2023.

“Ten years after we acquired the Book Warehouse on Broadway, Black Bond Books is excited to add Hager Books to its family of bookstores. I agree with founder Louise Hager, it is a perfect fit,” says Cathy Jesson, President of Black Bond Books.

Caitlin Jesson, VP and Director of Operations of Black Bond Books adds, “Hager Books has been such an integral part of the Vancouver book scene, we’re so thrilled to be continuing this legacy with the amazing team of booksellers you’ve all known and loved.”

Black Bond Books operates six stores in the Lower Mainland and will be taking over as the official bookseller for the Vancouver Writers Fest Oct. 17 to 23.
