Two local businesses raised over $2,300 for Delta Hospital with their fall campaigns.

Shoppers Drug Mart in Tsawwassen raised $1,369 through its Tree of Life for the Women's Health Fund and Riverside Delta raised $1,000 for the Greatest Needs Fund through its Cash For Candy at Halloween.

The Tree of Life at Shoppers Drug Mart locations across Canada donates funds to community health care charities.

"We chose the Delta Hospital as our local charity," said Shin Dinza, owner and pharmacist, "because this hospital services our customers, so we feel this best helps our community."

Riverside Dental paid local children in exchange for candy collected while trick or treating. It is the third year the Ladner dental clinic has undertaken the fundraising initiative.

Dr. Raj Dhiman wanted to send a positive message to Delta's kids and encourage fewer sugary snacks

"Independent special events are a great way to get involved with the hospital outside of those that we organize," said Jackey Zellweger of the Delta Hospital Foundation. "Independent events are easy and fun. If you can think of a what to fundraise, we can find a way to help you."

Every year, individuals from all over Delta commit to fundraise on behalf of the Delta Hospital Foundation.

Through creative initiatives, individuals and community organizations raise thousands of dollars to help bring the best health care possible to Delta Hospital.

For more information on how to host your own independent fundraising event, contact Zellweger at 604-940-9695 or email her at [email protected].

The Delta Hospital Foundation has raised over $25 million since 1988.
