CGAs recognize Podovinikoff's service

The Certified General Accountants Association of British Columbia (CGA-BC) recently honoured Peter Podovinikoff, past president of Delta Credit Union and Envision Financial, with its Community Service Award.

The Certified General Accountants Association of British Columbia (CGA-BC) recently honoured Peter Podovinikoff, past president of Delta Credit Union and Envision Financial, with its Community Service Award.

The award is in recognition of Podovinikoff 's outstanding service to his community and his exceptional voluntary contributions at the community level, which further enhance the professional image and profile of Certified General Accountants.

During a career that spanned more than 40 years, Podovinikoff held leadership roles within the credit union system at the local, provincial, national and international levels.

He is a founding member of the Kwantlen Polytechnic University Foundation Board and has served on the Premier's Advisory Council on Literacy and the Northwest Territories Co-operative Business Development Fund.

Eleven Delta residents were among the more than 500 new certified general accountants to officially receive their designation earlier this month.

The new CGAs were honoured at a convocation ceremony at the Vancouver Trade and Convention Centre.

The new local CGAs include: Garreth Barker, DipIT, BBA, CGA; Rashpal Bhangu, DFN, BBA, CGA;

Trevor Frier, DAcc, BBA, CGA; Carly Gibson, DiplT, BCom, CGA; Anna-Luise Gomm, BBA, CGA; Iryna Kauryzhka, BA, CGA; Armin Kermani, BCom, CGA; Jessie Li, DFM, BMgmt,

CGA; Rahul Mehta, BCom, ACIS, CGA; Ming Shi, DiplT, BTech, CGA; Yaqiong Wu, BCom, CGA.

Two Delta companies - Prepac Manufacturing Ltd., Inc. and Graph Tech Guitar Labs - were finalists in the 2013 BC Export Awards.

The winners were announced at the 2013 BC Export Awards Networking Trade Show and Gala Luncheon last Friday.

Speaking of awards, Talisman Homes Ltd. has been named a finalist for three Georgie Awards in two categories by the Canadian Home Builders' Association of British Columbia for its work on the Tsawwassen Springs development.

The company is nominated for Best Single Family Home up to 2,000 Sq. Ft. under $500,000 -Production and has two nominations in the Best Single Family Home over 2,000 Sq. Ft. under $750,000 -Production category.

The awards will be given out on Feb. 1 in Vancouver.

Spa Time in Tsawwassen is once again running its annual Christmas toy and food drive in support of Deltassist. The local spa will be accepting donations of new toys, clothes and non-perishable food items, and, in return for a donation, will be giving out coupons for a free finger polish change.

Donations can be dropped off a Spa Time, 1232 56th St., until Dec. 15.

Fishermen Helping Kids with Cancer is holding its third annual charity herring sale on Saturday, Nov. 30 between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. (or until sold out) at the south end of Trites Road in Steveston.

The sale, which is supported by Ladner fishermen, is open to the public with 100 per cent of the proceeds going to B.C. Children's Hospital Foundation to help kids with cancer.

Last year, all herring was sold out by noon so double the amount will be available for sale in Steveston this year at a price of $10 per 20-pound bag.
