Home Depot reaches out to help local gymnasts

A 15,000-square-foot facility is a big space - it requires constant maintenance and lots of material to keep it up.

That is why a donation of everything from plywood and lumber to screws and hooks from Home Depot comes in very handy to support the Delta Sport Development Centre, home of Delta Gymnastics.

"We were very pleased to help out Delta Gymnastics through our community giving program," said Ron Deeks, manager of contractor services and community affairs at the Scott Road Home Depot location.

"This is a beautiful new facility and we understand the need and cost involved in maintaining and enhancing a space that is used by such a large number of youth in our community."

Although the location is in Surrey, Deeks was a Delta resident until recently and has given back to the community through various organizations, receiving the Delta Citizen of the Year award a few years ago.

"I am very impressed with the story of the Delta Sport Development Centre and I fully support the importance of keeping our youth physically fit and active," added Deeks. "Our company is very happy to be helping the kids in Delta."

Delta Gymnastics Society has offered services to the community for 35 years. Physical activity programs are offered to all members, from pre-school tumbling programs to competitive gymnastics and sport development training for local athletic teams.
