A local jewelry store is bringing in some experts next weekend for its Know Your Pearls event.

Ladner's Lawlor Goldsmith Shoppe is hosting two Know Your Pearls clinics on both May 5 and 6, one in the morning and a second in the afternoon.

During the 15-to 20minute sessions, pearl experts will discuss how pearls are made and how to identify them, explaining the different qualities types. They will also provide pearl care instructions as well as answer any questions.

"We encourage you to bring in your pearls for the gemologist to look at," said owner Janet Holmes.

"They will be able to tell you a lot about your personal pearls. They can even appraise your pearl pieces, or they can quote restringing and even discuss re-designing."

The experts will also be bringing lots of pearls with them, including a large selection of finished pieces and loose pearl strands.

They will have many different types of pearls - mother of pearl, freshwater, akoya and south sea.

"You can choose a loose strand and a clasp and we will have the necklace or bracelet made up for you in time for Mother's Day," Holmes said, adding the store will have gift sets available.

Those attending can enter to win a yellow gold faceted amethyst pearl enhancer pendant, which will be drawn on Sunday, May 6.

The Know Your Pearls sessions are scheduled for 11: 30 a.m. and 2: 30 p.m. both May 5 and 6.
