Carol Benson-Hitch aims to help get South Deltans moving

Carol Benson-Hitch offers Urban Poling/Nordic Walking classes as well as personal training with her new business, CFS-Carol's Fitness Solutions.

"Basically, it's about getting people out there and moving. That's my main goal," says Benson-Hitch, who has spring sessions beginning in April.

Using poles makes walking a little more intense, she notes.

"It's a good in-between phase for walkers and people who can't run anymore."

Urban Poling, a North Vancouver company, makes poles with no wrist straps but with a ledge on the handle to allow the walker to push down to engage specific upper body muscles, she notes.

She teaches a fitness style of walking in her classes but if somebody wants to work one-on-one with her, she can do more of a rehab style training with them. Benson-Hitch, who offers one-on-one as well as duet personal training, says she's keen to work with people new to fitness and is understanding to clients needs.

She was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at age 37.

"So I can understand what people are going though when it comes to pain and inflammation."

Benson-Hitch is also a fitness instructor with the Corporation of Delta. She has a background as a rehab therapy assistant.
