Meridian Farm Market took over the former Jack's TV location in the Tsawwassen Shopping Centre last fall. The family-run company has spent the past several months getting the space ready for business.

CEO Josh Penner said the original plan was to be open in early January, however, that date had to be pushed back after some unexpected delays in getting a needed power upgrade.

The location had 200 amps of electricity, but in order to run all the refrigeration needed for the market, Penner said the company needs 400 amps.

A proposal was submitted to B.C. Hydro but the upgrades could not be completed in time for the original opening date.

However, the work is slated to be completed this week and Meridian Farm Market will be open for business on March 14, Penner said.

The aim of Meridian Farm Market is to provide a place for customers to pick up all the fresh essentials - meat, dairy, seafood and produce - along with some other grocery items. Penner said the store will not stock cleaning products or other non-food items.

The family-run company has four other locations around the Lower Mainland - Meridian Meats and Seafood - that specialize solely in meat and seafood.

This is the first time the company has branched out to include produce and other food items.

Penner said the move made sense and the company has always tried to locate its stores next to farm markets.
