Small business awards

Nominations are now open for the 19th annual Small Business B.C. Awards.

Facing several challenges throughout the pandemic, small businesses have stood strong as the pillars of the community. It’s now time to appreciate their efforts. Nominations are open until Feb. 28, and nominees are tasked with engaging their community to get as many votes as possible.

“At the heart of every small business is an entrepreneur whose drive and determination pushes them, even as they face challenges and hurdles in their path,” says Small Business BC CEO, Tom Conway. “The SBBC Awards is about celebrating that entrepreneurial spirit and supporting small businesses that inspire us all. I encourage all BC residents to nominate a business that has helped strengthen your community.”

This year’s awards features two categories:

The SBBC Business Impact Award goes to the business owner(s) that are truly making a difference. These hard-working individuals embrace the challenge of entrepreneurship, displaying skill in areas like sales, marketing, logistics, finances, and operations. Their organization has taken positive action to invest in the community and sees social responsibility as an integral part of business success. The prize breakdown is $8,000 (first place), $4,000 (second place) and $1,500 (third place).

Premier’s People Choice is presented to a BC-based small business that can demonstrate they have the unwavering and loyal support of their community. The criteria for winning is simple: Get more votes than any other nominee. Nominees are tasked with using any imaginative, creative or traditional tactics available to them to engage customers, clients and neighbours to vote for them. At the end of the process, the business with the most votes from their community is the winner and receives $1,500.

The SBBC Awards are free to enter, with each of the nominees uncovering valuable insights about their business during the process. In our changing world, it’s never been more important to take a moment to celebrate the achievements of our hard-working and resilient small business community.
