Delta has a wealth of talented, young entrepreneurs and business leaders.

And it’s time that they get some recognition for the work that they do in contributing to make this the great community that it is.

The Delta Optimist, City of Delta and Global Container Terminals are teaming up to present the inaugural Delta’s Top 40 Under 40.

“We wanted to create an avenue for local businesses to recognize exceptional young achievers in Delta's business community, whether it be within their organization or someone they work with in another organization,” said Optimist publisher Matt Blair. “Many of Delta’s awards are focused on business achievement or lifetime achievement. With the Top 40 Under 40 we want to focus on those who might become future winners of awards like the Chamber’s Hats Off.”

Blair said we have special categories for students and apprentices. These are often areas that don’t receive regular recognition and we really strived to make these awards inclusive and representative of Delta’s business landscape.

Nominees must live or work in Delta and be 40 years of age or younger as of March 1, 2022.

“Delta is fortunate to have a wealth of talented people throughout the community. Nowhere is this more true than in those under the age of 40,” said Mayor George Harvie. “I have seen this excellence in action up close at my Mayor’s Youth Council where engaged members constantly push the envelope, work collaboratively to produce tremendous results, and consider the future through eyes that are both fresh and wise. Our future is bright with these leaders of the community.”

Daniel Howell, Vice President Terminal Operations, GCT Deltaport said they are proud of the great work happening in the community.

“As we build back stronger and better, post-pandemic, we need new ideas and energy from the next generation of leaders,” said Howell. “GCT employs many passionate young leaders with innovative ideas to make a better future for us all. And now, we are excited to have the opportunity to celebrate those from across the community and all sectors making a difference here in Delta.”
