McDonald's McHappy Day in South Delta raised a record $8,000 for the Reach Child and Youth Development Society May 7. The funds will go to

the society's Building for Children capital campaign, which has now reached

about 40 per cent of its $4 million goal of building a child and youth development centre in the heart of Ladner.

On McHappy Day, $1 from the sale of every coffee, Big Mac and Happy Meal sold at the Ladner and Tsawwassen McDonald's restaurants was donated to Reach. Local events included live music performed by Christine Magee and Joe Barbeck, balloon animals, face painting and a visit from autism support dogs. Numerous volunteers from the community, including groups from Delta Cable, Century Group, Vancity, Raymond James Financial Group, and Delta police and firefighters, helped out.

go directly to Crohn's and Colitis Canada to invest in research, education, awareness and advocacy programs for a disease that affects more than 233,000 Canadian men, women and children.

To date, the annual event has raised more than $25.3 million.
