Telus spending $4.5M to upgrade infrastructure

Telus recently announced the company will spend $4.5 million this year to upgrade its communications infrastructure in Delta to meet the growing demand for high-speed Internet service.

Every wireless site in the community will be updated to 4G LTE, increasing wireless data speed and capacity.

The project is part of Telus' commitment to invest $4 billion in B.C. through 2018 to bring advanced telecommunications infrastructure to every corner of the province.

"This significant investment builds upon our sustained work to increase the speed and capacity of our networks throughout the community as demand for both Internet and wireless service continues to grow," said Bruce Dorwart, Telus director of customer solutions delivery in Delta. "Our networks provide the communications backbone for critical services such as education and healthcare, and bring some of the most advanced technology in the world to Delta's residents, small businesses and industrial parks."

Students recognized at the ceremony, which took place on May 30 in Vancouver, are eligible for membership in the Institute of Chartered Accountants of B.C. this year.

*** Employers in the Delta-Richmond area are projecting an optimistic hiring climate for the third quarter of 2015, according to the latest employment outlook survey from Manpower.

"Survey data reveals that 27 per cent of employers plan to hire for the upcoming quarter (July to September), while three per cent anticipate cutbacks," said Jeff Polkinghorne of Manpower's Vancouver office.

Another 70 per cent of employers plan to maintain their current staffing levels in the upcoming quarter.

"With seasonal variations removed from the data, Richmond-Delta's third quarter net employment outlook of 22 per cent is an increase of six percentage points when compared to the previous quarterly Outlook," he said. "It is also a one percentage point increase from the outlook reported during the same time last year, indicating an active hiring pace for the upcoming months."
